BONTANG – PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam workers carried out LNG Fire Fighting Training at the Badak LNG Fire Training Ground facility for two days starting October 10 2023. Badak LNG is the only company in Indonesia that has an LNG fire fighting training facility.

This is what prompted Pertamina Hulu Mahakam to send its workers to receive training at Badak LNG, which has been operating for 49 years. This training is a provision and familiarization regarding the understanding and proper and safe handling of LNG materials for PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam officers.

For two days the training participants received various knowledge from the instructors regarding handling LNG fires. The training began with a theoretical explanation of the characteristics of LNG and fire prevention efforts. After that, the participants were invited to tour the Badak LNG Plant to see the fire fighting protection system installed at the Badak LNG Plant.

The first day closed with practice of extinguishing LNG fires using APAR (light fire extinguisher). The second day of training focused on field practice. Participants carried out extinguishing practices but on a more complex scale than the previous day and of course accompanied by competent instructors.

It should be noted that LNG fires have twice the level of heat exposure as fires in general, so special handling and sufficient knowledge of the characteristics of LNG are needed.

Frandy Sinatra Subakti, Emergency Response Officer at Pertamina Hulu Mahakam expressed his appreciation for the training carried out.
“During the two days of training here we gained a lot of knowledge and hopefully this will be a benefit for Pertamina Hulu Mahakam to develop things related to LNG. We thank you very much for the collaboration between Pertamina Hulu Mahakam and Badak LNG,” said Frandy in his statement, Tuesday (17/10).

Meanwhile, Sapto Benarimo, Badak LNG Fire & Safety Manager, hopes that all training participants will gain knowledge and skills related to LNG blackouts. The training is also expected to be a form of collaborative knowledge sharing between Badak LNG and Pertamina Hulu Mahakam.
“Thank you to Pertamina Hulu Mahakam who has entrusted us to be able to carry out this training activity and to the entire team of instructors who have carried out this activity smoothly,” he said.

In the future, it is hoped that strong synergy between Badak LNG and Pertamina Hulu Mahakam can be further established and open up opportunities to hold other training.
